After a successful collaboration the previous year in 2021, Oxasport and Football2Be joined forces again to organise the Atlético de Madrid Football Camps on Belgium soil in 2022. In July 2022, a new Atlético de Madrid football camp was organised over 5 days in Wallonia in partnership with Royale Union Lasne Ohain (RULO).
The aim of the Atlético de Madrid Football Camps in Belgium has always been to share the knowledge and values of the Academy of Atlético de Madrid with young Belgian players and fans. The focus of the football camps is put on enjoying football while experiencing Atlético de Madrid’s Spanish training methodology and football sessions which some players in Belgium may not have already had the opportunity to experience. As Coaches from the Academy of Madrid travel to Belgium, they bring with them their experience, their football philosophy and a detailed training program for the week of camp prepared by the Club’s Sport Department. The program is prepared based on the age categories of the participants and follows a natural progression in football themes as the week goes on.
Royale Union Lasne Ohain were a superb local partner for such an event. Holding the 3* Label attributed by the ACFF for their youth football development, RULO counts over 300+ players in their Academy and is renowned in the region for the quality of the Youth Academy. With both grass and synthetic football fields, a modern clubhouse with catering infrastructure, multiple changing rooms and a magnificient covered terrace overlooking the different football fields, the Club’s facilities were ideal to host such an event and the Professional coaches of Atlético de Madrid. The professionalism and openness of the Club’s Management was remarkable, helping us at the every step to make the event a success for the players of the region.
For the week of the football camp, we welcomed Professional Coaches from the Academy Atlético de Madrid: Coaches Borja Galán and Adrián De Velasco. As senior figures in the Academy in Madrid, both Coach Borja and Coach Adrián train Teams at the High Performance Academy of Atlético de Madrid: the sport training complex nurturing the very best players of the Club. Borja and Adrián brought their passion, good-humour and football knowledge to the camp in Lasne-Ohain.
From the 4th to 8th July, over 70+ young players from the region aged 6 to 16 years old registered for the Atlético de Madrid Football Camp in Lasne Ohain. Each participant received an authentic and complete Nike Atlético de Madrid Football Kit brought over from Spain and warm meals during the day to be in optimal form. Each participant also received a Discount ticket from Walibi Belgium, a low-sugar fruit juice to enjoy with their family from FrOui Drinks and, of course an official diploma of Atlético de Madrid marking their participation in the football camp.
Combining both football on the field and theoretical presentations and games on-screen led by the Spanish Coaches, the camp aimed to give participants a varied and authentic football experience with Atlético de Madrid in Lasne-Ohain.
The week of football ended on the sunny Friday afternoon with the presentation of each group of participants on the main pitch of Royale Union Lasne Ohain as their received their Diploma to the sound of Atlético de Madrid’s official anthem. Some time was left on the pitch to take photos with friends and the Coaches Borja and Adrián before they headed to Zaventem airport to return home to Madrid.Distributing the official diplomas at the closing ceremony on Friday afternoon
