Getafe CF Football Boarding School — Program Overview

The Getafe CF football boarding school program places international student-athletes inside the official academy structure of Getafe C.F., a professional club competing in LaLiga, Spain’s top division. With 22 seasons at the highest level of Spanish football and a stadium — the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez — holding 17,000 spectators, Getafe CF is an established professional environment rather than an independent academy borrowing a club name.

Players train under coaches who hold a UEFA Pro Licence and work within the official Getafe CF methodology, the same system used to develop the club’s own professional first-team squad. Madrid’s status as Spain’s most concentrated football city — home to four LaLiga clubs — means students are immersed in professional football culture from the moment they arrive.

The academic partner for the Getafe CF boarding school program is Aquinas American School (AAS), an international college-preparatory high school located in Pozuelo de Alarcón in the Madrid suburbs. AAS holds accreditation from the IB Organisation, the NCAA, College Board (SAT), and MSA-CESS, and has a student body representing more than 45 nationalities.

Students can pursue a fully accredited American High School Diploma (Grades 9–12), an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (Grades 11–12), or — for older students — a Student Athlete Program tailored to combine intensive morning training schedules with afternoon academic sessions. The school’s dual accreditation from both the NCAA and the IB Organisation means the qualification earned here opens pathways to both North American college programs and competitive European universities.

The program is open to male players across all four years of high school, with a dedicated Student Athlete Program track available exclusively to students in Grades 11 and 12.

100% in English

All academic instruction at Aquinas American School is delivered entirely in English — no prior Spanish is required to join, though Spanish as a Second Language is available as an elective.

American High School Diploma / IB Diploma / Student Athlete Program

Students choose the track that fits their academic goals and grade level, each fully accredited and recognised by universities in North America, Europe, and beyond.

Register for the upcoming academic year

The academic year opens on 1 September and closes in June , with breaks for Christmas and Easter built into the school calendar.

Who Is This Program For?

The GIMFA program is designed for male football players in Grades 9 through 12 — broadly 14 to 18 years old — who are committed to pursuing football at the highest level they can reach. The program is structured for players who already train seriously and want to experience the methodology of a Spanish professional club in a full-season competitive environment. All students go through an academic admission process at Aquinas American School and an interview before being accepted. Nationality is open internationally, though non-EU passport holders face an additional mandatory guardianship package and visa process.

This program suits families who want their child’s football development and academic credentials to progress in parallel rather than one at the expense of the other. The dual accreditation of Aquinas American School means parents can pursue a US college soccer pathway (NCAA-eligible school), a European university route via the IB Diploma, or simply a rigorous American High School Diploma with recognized international standing. Families should be prepared for a full-season commitment of ten months, and for their child to live, study, and train in Madrid with 24/7 supervised residency throughout the school year.

This program is unlikely to suit players looking primarily for short-term football exposure without a serious academic component, since school attendance at AAS is mandatory every weekday. It is also not suitable for players who need single-room accommodation — the residence operates on a shared double-room basis. Families who are not prepared for the full commitment of ten months of supervised boarding life, or who want a program outside Spain, should explore other options before enquiring.

The Getafe CF Football Boarding School Training Program

About Getafe CF

Getafe C.F. is a professional football club based in Getafe, a city located 13 kilometres south of Madrid. The club competes in LaLiga, Spain’s top-flight professional division, and has spent 22 seasons at that level — a record that places it firmly among Spain’s established professional clubs rather than its recent promotees. The club has reached the final of the Copa del Rey on two occasions and plays its home matches at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, which holds 17,000 spectators.

Through GIMFA — the Getafe International Madrid Football Academy — the club runs an official international academy program that gives selected student-athletes access to the club’s coaching staff, facilities, and methodology.

For an international family, what this means practically is that players are not training in a generic football school that happens to use a club’s badge: they are inside the club’s own development ecosystem, trained by coaches selected and endorsed by Getafe CF’s First Division staff. Oxasport works as an official partner of this program, meaning families benefit from guided enrollment support throughout the full admission process at no additional cost.

Training Methodology

The GIMFA training methodology is the official Getafe CF methodology, applied directly by coaches who are embedded within the club’s structure. The approach follows a four-stage development cycle: an initial player evaluation that identifies technical level, physical profile, and individual development goals; a personalised planning phase that sets position-specific objectives and seasonal targets; a daily implementation phase built around high-intensity sessions covering technical execution, tactical awareness, and mental resilience; and a structured performance review phase using data analysis and individual feedback.

Each player follows a personalised development plan rather than a uniform group program, which means the coaching and session design are adjusted to position, level, and long-term goals. Alongside technical and tactical work, the methodology explicitly includes psychological development, which the club addresses through an on-staff psychologist. The use of GPS performance tracking and individual video analysis gives the program a sports-science infrastructure that goes beyond what most independent football academies offer.

Five training days per week are built into the weekly timetable, with the training schedule adjusting by day — strength and injury prevention on Monday, Getafe CF U19 coach-led sessions on Tuesday, technical-tactical work on Wednesday, position-specific sessions on Thursday, and strategy preparation on Friday.

Coaching Staff and Credentials

All head coaches within the GIMFA program hold a UEFA Pro Licence, the highest coaching qualification issued by UEFA, and are selected through a process endorsed by Getafe CF’s own First Division coaching staff. The program operates with two dedicated coaches per team, ensuring players receive both team-level tactical coaching and individual attention. Specialist support roles extend the program well beyond standard coach-to-player ratios: a Performance Video Analyst tracks individual and team output; a Physical Coach manages GPS-based load monitoring and builds personalised physical development programs by position; two Physiotherapists attend all training sessions and matches; and a dedicated Goalkeeper Coach delivers position-specific development. Outside the purely football-related staff, the program also employs a Nutritionist, a Psychologist, a College and Career Counsellor, and an Academic Advisor — a support structure that reflects the dual student-athlete identity the program is designed to serve.

  • All head coaches: UEFA Pro Licence
  • 2 coaches per team (technical and tactical development)
  • Performance Video Analyst (individual match analysis and performance review)
  • Physical Coach (GPS load monitoring and position-specific physical programs)
  • 2 Physiotherapists (present at all training sessions and matches)
  • Goalkeeper Coach (specialist position-specific program)
  • Nutritionist (performance nutrition guidance)
  • Psychologist (mental performance and emotional support)
  • College & Career Counsellor (university pathway support)
  • Academic Advisor (in-school academic monitoring)

Weekly Training Schedule Example

Training takes place five days per week, Monday through Friday, with sessions scheduled in the afternoon from 15:00 to 17:00 (3:00 to 5:00 pm) following morning school at Aquinas American School. Each training day has a different focus that builds through the week — physical conditioning at the start, progressing through Getafe CF coach-led technical-tactical sessions, to pre-match strategy by Friday. Weekend days are structured around official league matches, cultural and social activities organised by the residence, and free time in the afternoon and evening.

Player Development and Progress Tracking

Player development is tracked through a structured four-step cycle that begins with a comprehensive evaluation on arrival — covering technical assessment, physical profiling, and identification of individual development goals. This feeds a personalised action plan with seasonal objectives and position-specific targets. Through the season, GPS monitoring by the Physical Coach tracks training load and physical output; the Performance Video Analyst records and reviews individual match and session footage; and the Physiotherapy team monitors physical condition and manages injury prevention protocols. Formal performance assessments take place at set points in the cycle, producing individual feedback reports and updated development goals.

  • GPS performance monitoring at training sessions
  • Individual video analysis of matches and training sessions
  • Regular performance reports
  • Physical assessments: technical, tactical, and physical benchmarks
  • Personalised Individual Development Plan reviewed seasonally
  • Physiotherapy monitoring and injury prevention program
  • Nutritional monitoring by on-staff nutritionist
  • Psychological performance support by on-staff psychologist

Matches and Tournament Calendar

Players compete in 50 to 55 matches per season including official league fixtures every weekend and participation in elite national and international tournaments. Academy teams compete in the Spanish football pyramid against the youth academies of professional clubs such as Villarreal CF, Espanyol, Deportivo de La Coruña, Mallorca, and Sporting de Gijón — as well as regular friendly matches against competitive regional clubs. The program includes participation in 3 top-level tournaments per year. Stadium tours and attendance at LaLiga and Second Division matches are organised monthly as part of the broader professional immersion experience.

Physical Conditioning and Sports Science

Physical conditioning is embedded across the weekly training structure rather than isolated into a single gym session per week. Monday’s dedicated field session covers strength training and injury prevention; Thursday introduces position-specific physical demands; and the Personal Trainer designs individualised physical programs based on each player’s position and athletic profile, supported by GPS data.

Two Physiotherapists attend every training session and match, providing both proactive injury prevention support and reactive player care. A Nutritionist on staff provides performance nutrition guidance, and a Psychologist supports mental performance, confidence, and emotional balance — an increasingly standard component of high-level development programs. Access to the AAS residence gym is also available to all boarding students.

  • Dedicated Physical Coach (GPS tracking, individualised training programs by position)
  • 2 Physiotherapists present at all training sessions and matches
  • Monday strength training and injury prevention sessions
  • Position-specific physical development on Thursdays
  • On-staff Nutritionist (performance nutrition guidance)
  • On-staff Psychologist (mental performance and emotional support)
  • On-site gym access at the AAS Student Residence

Boarding School Academics

Academic quality is a structural part of the GIMFA program — Aquinas American School is an internationally accredited institution whose qualifications open doors to universities in North America, Europe, and beyond, ensuring that a player’s education keeps pace with their football development regardless of which professional path they ultimately follow.

Aquinas American School

School name: Aquinas American School (AAS)

School location: Calle Poniente 20, Urbanización Monte Alina, Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid, Spain — High School Campus. (AAS Student Residence: Calle de los Ciruelos 14, Urbanización Montepríncipe, Alcorcón, Madrid.)

Student body: Boarding capacity of up to 90 male and female students. The wider school community represents 45+ nationalities.

  • IB Organisation (International Baccalaureate authorised school)
  • NCAA (college athletics–eligible curriculum)
  • College Board / SAT
  • MSA-CESS (Middle States Association accreditation)

Aquinas American School is a college-preparatory international boarding school serving students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. Its combination of American curriculum rigour, IB certification, and NCAA accreditation makes it a strong fit for international student-athletes who need a credential that travels — whether to a US college, a British university, or a European institution. The school’s long-term teaching faculty work closely with the residence team, which means academic and welfare staff communicate directly rather than operating in parallel silos. AAS graduates have gone on to study at colleges and universities in North America, Europe, and beyond.

Academic Qualifications Available

American High School Diploma

The American High School Diploma at AAS is a fully accredited qualification available to students in Grades 9 through 12. The curriculum is recognised by the NCAA, making it directly applicable to the US college athletics pathway, and by international universities across Europe. Students earn 7 academic credits per year in a program that balances academic rigour with the flexibility student-athletes need to manage training, travel, and matches. All teaching is delivered 100% in English by American-credentialled teachers, making it accessible to international students without Spanish language skills from day one.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB)

The IB Diploma Program is available to students in Grades 11 and 12 as a two-year qualification. Offered by AAS and delivered 100% in English, the IB Diploma is one of the most widely recognised pre-university qualifications in the world, accepted by universities across North America, Europe, Asia, and beyond. AAS is described in program materials as one of the top IB schools in Spain. The IB track carries an additional fee. The two-year commitment means this option is best suited to students enrolling no later than Grade 11.

Student Athlete Program (SAP)

A new academic track introduced for students in Grades 11 and 12, the Student Athlete Program is designed specifically for those combining high-performance sport with their final years of school. Classes run Monday through Thursday from 15:00 to 18:00 — in the afternoon, after morning training — and students take four subjects per year, one from each of four curriculum blocks (English/Language, Mathematics, History and Business, Sciences and Philosophy). Classes meet three times per week in person and all materials are also available online, providing flexibility for tournament travel. The SAP program fee for 2026–27 is €45,000 for a full season (September–June). Additional opportunities within this track include Spanish Federation Coaching License courses (Level 1 or 2) and Spanish as a Second Language classes.

NCAA Alignment and US College Pathway

Aquinas American School holds formal NCAA approval for its curriculum, meaning the academic credit earned here meets the eligibility requirements set by the National Collegiate Athletic Association for international student-athletes seeking to compete in US college sports. This is a significant practical advantage for any player whose pathway includes a US university soccer program — the academic and athletic credential built during the GIMFA program directly supports NCAA eligibility clearance. College and Career Counselling is included in the program for all students, with the counsellor supporting applications to colleges and universities in both the US and Europe. The GIMFA program’s dual emphasis on competitive match exposure and a structured academic credential makes it a credible base for building a profile that satisfies both athletic recruiters and academic admissions offices.

Language of Instruction

All academic instruction at Aquinas American School is delivered 100% in English, across all qualification tracks. This means international students from any country can join the program and follow a full academic curriculum without prior knowledge of Spanish. The school community is highly international — 45+ nationalities represented — so English-as-a-working-language is the daily norm rather than an accommodation. For students who wish to develop Spanish language skills alongside their English-medium studies, the SAP track explicitly includes Spanish as a Second Language as an additional elective option. Basic Spanish will naturally develop through daily life in Madrid, but it is not a prerequisite for academic success on this program.

A Typical Academic Day

Weekdays follow a structured routine designed around the two pillars of the program. School at Aquinas American School runs from 8:30 to 14:45, covering the full academic curriculum in a morning-to-mid-afternoon block. Students return to the residence after school, take a snack at 17:00 following the end of football training (15:00–17:00), then move into a dedicated study period from 18:30 to 20:00. Dinner follows at 20:00, with lights out at 22:00. Study hours on weekday evenings (Monday through Thursday) are a formal part of the timetable, not optional. The schedule adapts around tournament travel, with online materials available to keep students current with coursework when competing away from Madrid.

What Families Ask Us Most Often

The two questions families ask us most are about the depth of the Getafe CF connection and the standard of the academics. On the football side: coaches are selected and endorsed by Getafe CF’s First Division staff, and the methodology players train within is the club’s own — not a licensed version of it. Official Getafe CF coaches attend training sessions of the student-athletes and follow their progress and development.

On the academic side: Aquinas American School is a fully accredited institution recognised by the NCAA and the IB Organisation, preparing students for universities in North America, Europe, and beyond. The boarding setup at AAS means both elements are managed within a single structured environment, which families tell us simplifies the decision considerably compared to trying to arrange elite training and serious academics separately.

Results and Outcomes

The program is structurally designed to produce three types of outcome. First, football development outcomes: players complete a full Spanish professional league season against the youth academies of LaLiga and Segunda División clubs, accumulating 50–55 competitive matches and three top-level tournaments in a single year — a volume of high-quality competition that is difficult to replicate outside a professional club environment. Second, academic outcomes: students leave with a formally accredited qualification — an American High School Diploma, IB Diploma, or SAP academic credits — from a school that prepares graduates for universities in North America, Europe, and beyond. Third, pathway outcomes: the combination of NCAA eligibility (via AAS) and competitive European football exposure gives students a dual profile that supports both US college soccer recruitment and European university applications.

  • 50–55 competitive matches per season, including official league fixtures every weekend
  • 3 top-level national and international tournaments per season
  • Competition against LaLiga and Segunda División youth academies (Villarreal CF, Espanyol, Deportivo de La Coruña, Mallorca, Sporting de Gijón)
  • Graduates hold an NCAA-approved American High School Diploma or internationally recognised IB Diploma
  • University and college counselling included for all Grades 11–12 students

About the City

Living in Madrid

Madrid is Spain’s capital and its largest city, with a population of around 3.3 million in the city proper. For a family considering sending a teenager to live abroad, the practical picture is reassuring: Spain is consistently rated as one of Europe’s safest countries, and the specific setting of the GIMFA program — the residential, gated community of Montepríncipe in Alcorcón and the Pozuelo de Alarcón suburb — is notably quiet and family-oriented compared to Madrid’s city centre. Students are within easy reach of central Madrid via the ML3 metro ligero line, which means weekends can include the full range of cultural, social, and culinary experiences the city offers — museums, parks, restaurants, music — without the residence being located in a noisy urban environment. Madrid’s climate is generally sunny and dry, particularly from spring through autumn, which supports year-round outdoor training.

Madrid as a Football City

Madrid is the most concentrated professional football environment in Spain. During the 2026–27 season, the city is home to four LaLiga clubs — Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid, Getafe CF, and CD Leganés — and multiple Segunda División clubs including AD Alcorcón and others. The Spanish National Football Team’s training centre and the Professional Football League headquarters are also based in Madrid. For a young player, this creates an immersive environment that extends beyond the training pitch: LaLiga and Segunda División matches are accessible on weekends, professional players and coaches are visible in the city’s broader football community, and the intensity of football culture that permeates everyday life in Madrid is unlike anything available in most other European cities. The GIMFA program formalises this immersion through monthly stadium tours and organised attendance at professional matches, but the exposure begins the moment a player arrives.

Getting There and Getting Around

Madrid Adolfo Suárez Barajas Airport (MAD) is one of Europe’s busiest international hubs, with direct connections from all major European cities, North America, Latin America, and beyond. The AAS Student Residence is located approximately 20–30 minutes from the airport by car or taxi. The residence to school transport is managed by the program — a private bus collects students each morning at 07:45 and 08:05, and returns from campus at 15:00 and 16:30. GIMFA training sessions at Getafe CF facilities are also managed through program transport. For wider Madrid access, the ML3 (Metro Ligero) line and bus routes 573, 571, and 574 connect the Montepríncipe community to the city. Parents flying in for visits will find Pozuelo de Alarcón easily accessible by both car and public transport.

How Oxasport Supports you

Oxasport is a Belgian educational football agency and an official partner of the Getafe International Madrid Football Academy, which means we are directly integrated into the program’s admission process.

When a family chooses to enquire through Oxasport, we open a direct line to the program coordinators at GIMFA and Aquinas American School on their behalf giving priority to their request. Our process begins with an honest assessment of whether the program is the right fit for your child: we look at age, academic level, football background, and family goals before we recommend proceeding. If we believe the program fits, we guide the family through every step from initial evaluation to document preparation and coordination with the Academy and School coordinators.

There is no additional cost for any of this support — Oxasport’s fee is covered by the program, not the family, and the price you pay is identical to the published program fee.

Compare This Program

Most families researching the GIMFA program are also looking at one or two other options — whether that is another Madrid-based program, a different Spanish city, or a different academic model. That is the right approach, and we encourage it. The right program depends on the player’s age, passport, academic level, football ambition, and family priorities — and there is no single answer that fits every situation. The comparisons below are designed to help, not to sell.

Getafe CF Football Boarding School — Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

If your question is not covered below, contact the Oxasport team directly — we respond to every enquiry within 24 hours.

What is the deadline to apply for the program?

The program has limited enrolment each season, and places are offered on a rolling basis as applications are received and evaluated. Early application is highly recommended. Returning students must pay a non-refundable €5,000 registration fee by 1 March of the preceding academic year to hold their place. Contact Oxasport for current availability for next academic year intake.

Do I need a European passport to join this program?

No. The program is open to students of any nationality. Non-EU passport holders must take the Guardianship Package at an additional €2,000, which covers the legal guardianship, visa application, Spanish residency support, and notary expenses required to obtain a Spanish student visa. EU passport holders are exempt from the visa requirement and the Guardianship Package.

What does the program fee include?

The full season fee of €49,000 covers: elite football training (5 days per week under UEFA Pro-licensed Getafe CF coaches), full school tuition at Aquinas American School including all textbooks, student accommodation at the AAS Student Residence, three meals per day plus snacks, school and sports uniforms, participation in league matches and tournaments, individual video analysis, physiotherapy, nutritional and psychological monitoring, masterclasses, stadium tours, laundry service, international health insurance, 24-hour supervision, academic guidance, and college counselling (Grades 11–12).

Does the fee cover international flights and visas?

No. International flights to and from Madrid are not included and are arranged by the family. For non-EU students, Spanish student visa fees are not included in the base program fee — they are covered as part of the mandatory Guardianship Package (€2,000), which also covers legal guardianship services, residency paperwork, and notary costs.

What language are classes taught in?

All academic instruction at Aquinas American School is delivered 100% in English, across all qualification tracks. No Spanish language is required to begin the program. Spanish as a Second Language is available as an elective within the Student Athlete Program track for those who wish to develop the language alongside their studies.

Can international players compete in official Spanish football leagues?

Due to strict FIFA regulations, players cannot compete in the top official Spanish football league. However, players will play in local league matches every weekend and play friendly matches against professional club academies.

What level of football experience is required?

The program is described as a high-performance development environment for players who are serious about football and who want to train within a professional club system. All applicants go through an evaluation process in which the GIMFA coaching staff review the player’s profile before confirming acceptance. Players should ideally have a background in organised competitive football at club level.

Is there 24/7 supervision for players?

Yes. The AAS Student Residence has 6 live-in House Parents who are present full time — one couple on each of the four student floors. Full-night surveillance covers the residence building, and the wider Montepríncipe gated community has 24-hour security. The duty adult can be reached via the residence landline or WhatsApp from 08:00 to 22:00. The Boarding Program Head and Coordinator are the designated family points of contact throughout the year.

What academic qualification will my child work toward?

Students in Grades 9–12 work toward the Aquinas American School American High School Diploma — a fully accredited qualification recognised by the NCAA and by international universities. Students in Grades 11–12 can alternatively choose the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (a two-year internationally recognised pre-university qualification, with an additional annual fee) or the new Student Athlete Program, which is a reduced-load American High School track designed specifically around intensive afternoon training schedules for older student-athletes.
